Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of rhyme found in the lyrics of Mahalini’s album Fabula and their implications for literary learning in senior high school. The album was selected because it contains ten songs with lyric structures rich in sound and poetic aesthetics. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with text analysis techniques based on Badudu’s (1984) and Sayuti’s (2008) rhyme theory, which distinguishes rhymes by sound (perfect rhyme, imperfect rhyme, absolute rhyme) and by position (initial, medial, final, parallel, and sequential rhyme). Data were collected through documentation and hermeneutic techniques by examining each lyric line to identify emerging rhyme patterns. The results show that the most dominant rhymes used are final and perfect rhymes with a repetitive a-a-a-a pattern, creating musical harmony in the lyrics. Additionally, parallel and imperfect rhymes are found to enhance emotional expression and lyrical aesthetics. The implications of this research in literary learning indicate that song lyrics can serve as an engaging medium to understand the physical elements of poetry, particularly rhyme, helping students connect literary theory with real-world applications in popular music.
